Our Story

Sustainable Together started in the midst of September 2020 with a group of four medical students from Western University. Initially they wanted to support their classmates during their tough time through the rigorous curriculum. As time went on, classes began to transition to online learning and these four students began to get frustrated that they couldn't help their community as much.

Most of the people living in the Pomona area are living in a food desert and the population shows that a large number of the residents are living in a low-income neighborhood.

So the four students decided to expand their efforts into helping the surrounding efforts that were already starting to pop up, such as local community gardens like Lopez Urban Farm and Buena Vista Community Garden. They also started to help out at the local farmer's market every Saturday.

This led to more volunteers coming on to the organization and pitching in to help maintain the gardens as well as setup the tents for the farmer's market.

From the generous help of volunteers, the organization has been able to start collecting fresh fruits and vegetables grown from local community gardens and deliver them straight to family homes to cook and eat.

As our organization grows, we want to start teaching kids at a young age how important our nutrition is to our health. Our projects are now starting to expand to educating the schools around the area with volunteers in many different fields.

This is our main goal now: To provide access to healthy foods and nutrition education as a way to decrease the prevalence of chronic disease in low income and underserved communities.

We're still a small organization just getting started, and we would appreciate any help we can get! Consider donating to us to help keep these projects running and expanding!
